I really enjoyed my birdwatching journey through the Western Ghats. The 8-day trip was very well organized — Tropic Trail was very quick to respond and designed an itinerary that included a variety of habitats, each hosting its own set of bird species. Some sites shared overlapping species, which helped maximize the chances of observing key endemics. The hotels chosen were all comfortable, with hot water and a pleasant atmosphere to relax between birding sessions, and all transfers were made in a comfortable car. Kerala offers an exceptional diversity of birdlife within relatively short distances, allowing for excellent observation conditions — which I particularly appreciate, as I focus on watching birds rather than photographing them. Among the highlights were the Malabar Trogon, Indian Pitta, Asian Fairy Bluebird, eight species of bulbuls, many flycatchers, several barbets, both diurnal and nocturnal raptors, and many more. Beyond the ornithological aspect, I truly appreciated the kindness and smiles of the Keralites, as well as the lush green landscapes that follow the rain. Even at the end of the monsoon season, I knew to expect rain — and there was plenty of it! — but that’s precisely what nourishes such vibrant vegetation. In short, I would not hesitate to travel again with this agency, for example if I return to spend a few more days in Kerala, for example to see birds in the backwaters!
