Upon arrival at Kempegowda International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by your Tropic Trails Cycling India tour leader and transferred to your hotel in Bangalore. Often referred to as India’s vibrant “Garden City” and technology hub, Bangalore is a dynamic blend of green spaces, colonial charm, modern culture, and pleasant weather—making it the perfect starting point for your South India cycling and wildlife adventure. After check-in, the rest of the day is free for you to relax, recover from your journey, and prepare for the exciting days ahead. In the evening, your tour leader will conduct a detailed trip briefing covering the cycling routes, safety procedures, bike setup, and logistics for the upcoming journey through the spectacular Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve and the UNESCO-listed Western Ghats. Day 2:
Mysore

After breakfast, you will drive to the magnificent Somanathapura Temple (approx. 3 hours), one of the finest examples of 13th-century Hoysala architecture in South India. Famous for its intricate stone carvings, detailed sculptures, and star-shaped design, the temple offers a fascinating glimpse into Karnataka’s rich cultural and artistic heritage. After exploring this historic masterpiece, continue your journey to Mysore, the royal capital of Karnataka and one of the highlights of any South India cultural tour. Following lunch en route and hotel check-in, enjoy an evening sightseeing tour of Mysore. Visit the grand Mysore Palace, an architectural landmark renowned for its royal history, ornate interiors, and illuminated façade. The route passes through peaceful countryside, lush farmlands, traditional villages, and small local towns, offering an authentic experience of rural Karnataka. By lunchtime, you will arrive at your beautiful wildlife lodge located along the serene Kabini Reservoir, part of the famous Nagarhole National Park ecosystem within the UNESCO-listed Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve. In the afternoon, embark on an exciting Kabini jeep safari with an experienced naturalist in search of the region’s incredible wildlife. The forests of Kabini are renowned for sightings of Asian elephants, gaur (Indian bison), spotted deer, sambar deer, langurs, and a rich variety of birdlife. Today begins with a short vehicle transfer before starting a scenic cycling ride through the lush highlands of Wayanad. The route winds through rolling tea plantations, coffee estates, forest trails, and peaceful countryside roads with beautiful lake views and panoramic vistas of the surrounding valleys. The cool mountain air and gentle terrain make this one of the most enjoyable rides of the tour. Your destination is the famous Edakkal Caves, one of the most important archaeological sites in South India. Believed to be over 8,000 years old, these caves contain fascinating Neolithic rock engravings depicting human figures, animals, tools, and ancient symbols that offer a rare glimpse into prehistoric life. Reaching the caves involves a moderate uphill walk of approximately 1.5 km, including steps and narrow pathways, but the effort is richly rewarded with breathtaking views across the Wayanad hills. After exploring the caves, you will return to your nature resort for a relaxing evening surrounded by the forests of the Western Ghats.

This scenic cross border ride takes you through tea estates, forest corridors, spice plantations, and traditional villages while gradually climbing toward the Kerala–Tamil Nadu border. The constantly changing landscapes make this one of the most diverse and rewarding cycling days of the tour. As you descend toward Masinagudi and the edge of the Mudumalai forests, you’ll notice a dramatic transition from Kerala’s lush tropical greenery to the drier wilderness of Tamil Nadu’s wildlife-rich landscapes. The route features rolling climbs, exciting descents, and frequent opportunities to spot birds, monkeys, deer, and other wildlife along the roadside. The route passes dense shola forests, rolling grasslands, mist-covered valleys, and famous viewpoints including Needle Rock and the serene Pykara Lake, making every climb unforgettable. As you ride higher into the Nilgiri Mountains, the cool mountain air and dramatic scenery create a truly epic cycling experience. Along the route, enjoy panoramic views of mist-covered valleys, terraced farms, eucalyptus groves, and tea covered hills that define the beauty of the Nilgiri Mountains. The ride also offers a glimpse into the unique culture of the Toda tribe, one of the oldest indigenous communities in South India, known for their traditional barrel-shaped homes, intricate embroidery, and deep connection with the Nilgiri landscape. With minimal traffic, cool mountain air, and serene surroundings, this ride is a peaceful and memorable finale to your cycling journey through South India.
